EGR valve
Hello Bongo people , hope you can help me , I have a 1996 2.5 litre diesel ford freda , " how can I test the EGR valve .? Thanks for any help , I'm a real novice , but know how to read a multimeter , thanks again for any advice
Re: EGR valve
I don't know about testing it, but it's an easy ish job to blank it off. Do a search for egr blanking.

Re: EGR valve
it is controlled via the ecu.
as i understand the controlling system it is triggered by the temp of the coolant via the fan switch sensor at the drivers side of the head just above the starter motor. this then allows the solenoids to open giving vacuum so pulling on the diaphragm. it also has a position sensor to tell the ecu that it has opened/closed when told. it shows a fault when its not working.
to test, get the bongo coolant above about 50 deg C, this is the switch off point for the glow plugs so the egr is switched on around this temp.
a good smack with a hammer sometimes clears it, as they do get crapped up inside or check the solenoids are switching----put 12 volts and a neg to them and listen for the click. or check the thin vac pipes are ok and still flexy not rock hard and brittle.
