Mazda MPV 1st generation (LV-series) versions & types
"Mazda model MPV 1st generation (LV-series) belongs to minivan / large MPV ( multi purpose vehicle) class. Represents the "M (multi purpose cars)" market segment. The car was offered with multi-purpose body shapes between the years 1988 and 1999. A major change ("face lift") during a model run occured in 1995 (m.y. 1996).
Cars were equipped with range of engines of 2494 - 2954 cc (151.9 - 180.1 cui) displacement, delivering 84.5 - 115.5 kW (115 - 157 PS, 113 - 155 hp) of power.
Mazda MPV 1st generation (LV-series) is constructionaly closely related also to EFINI MPV."
How can I tell if my 1996 is the face lift version? 2494 I assume is 84.5 KW (113bhp) however the information doesn't make any comparisons between auto & manual box for torque peak!

I think that info is slightly erroneous with regard to our model of Bongo.
1995 - '97 was the initial version, then round about '98 they changed the rear reflectors from amber to clear. Around '99 was the first proper facelift with new tail lights, headlights, grille, centre consol and different front bumper/foglights and higher lifting AFT. Approx 2002, the final version had new xenon headlights, new grille, new front bumper/foglights, grey leather steering wheel, Aero AFT and revised rear bumper. There were a few interior trim improvements along the way including lighter grey plastic trim and carpets.
Yours is one of the early models so is before any of the facelifts. These are the power curves for the engine you have. I don't think the gearbox will have any impact on the torque figures for the engine, although the power at the wheels will be slightly lower with the auto 'box.

It sounds like you're confusing the Mazda Bongo with the Mazda Bongo Friendee, which is what ours are - see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mazda_Bongo

The Bongo Friendee isn't that series.
As Franco says not all Bongos are the same.
