Removing Wiper / Indicator switch / stalk assembly

Post by neilph » Tue Dec 10, 2013 7:24 pm

In the course of my fault finding for both the rear wiper and rear wash not working (not the fuse) I dissembled the wiper stalk whilst in situ. Unsurprisingly this is particularly difficult to reassemble, lining up the both of the stalks etc. I have therefore removed the steering wheel and the yellow sleeve, loosened the metal spring clip (the one with the bolt through it) around the base of the switch assembly and disconnected all the plugs into the assembly.

It looks like it should just slide off the steering column now but it is clearly catching on something after moving just a fraction.

Anyone?

Thanks

Neil

check the wiring loom where it comes through from the rear roof to the tailgate, the wires look ok but may be snapped.

For those that may be attempting the same, there are two plastic lugs at the top and bottom of the inside of the plastic sleeve of the housing. You will see that there is an extra piece of plastic at the top of the sleeve to assist in lifting it up and therefore pulling the lug out of the small hole on the column.

The above description aside, you need to take car not to be too brutal as you may snap off the section of plastic sleeving if you pull up too much. This is exactly what I did! However, having removed the assembly now, it strikes as something that is more inclined to be fitted once rather than be easily removed.

I believe that all will be well once I put it all back together as there is a spring clip that will fit tightly around the sleeve.

Ady - I have checked the wiring loom for wear and tear and there is nothing obvious. This may be one for the Bongo boys at ADS Bristol to work out. There is nothing like spending several hours and still not having an answer to dampen one's enthusiasm #-o

I often use the full list and just search (Ctrl-F & F3) for terms I'm interested in !
