Fitting a pressure gauge to auto box. ???

Post by Gasy » Sat Oct 12, 2013 5:43 pm

Fitted a electric oil pressure gauge to me auto box
Sender is in one of the rubber hoses connecting to auto box
Electric gauge in dash

But don't think it's working
Reads 120psi engine running or not
It does drop 0 when starting engine
It has a warning light if below 10 psi that's not on

Should this work
Is there enough oil pressure to activate a gauge ( seemed to be when I had a leak )

Or do I have a brand new faulty gauge sender
Many thanks gas

Did you test the gauge and sensor before you fitted it?

Ahhhh think Internet saves day again

As the sender is usually into the engine which is earthed

Forgive my ignorance but what will the gauge tell you?
I seem to remember a set of five or six gauges connected to show a auto boxes performance whilst being tested when I was an apprentice

It won, tell you if you have a leak and if you lose pressure you will have no drive....waste of time if you ask me.....a temp gauge fitted to it may be of some use but I think best left alone.

But you have just created a potential for a leak occurring - I agree with Haydn.

You should be able to fit the sensor to the gearbox casing, as has been said there are various pressures used in an auto box hydraulic.

Would you really lose drive that quick
Don't think I have increased risk of leak
As I had to repair a leaky metal pipe a few weeks ago
I have no more connections now than I did have

Do you think if I earth it it will work

If you are using a standard one wire pressure switch I would imagine it would need an earth.

What is the range of the gauge.
