WEIGHT

Post by pippin » Sat Dec 30, 2006 8:24 pm

On our return from holiday in the summer we passed a publick weighbridge so decided to get the Bongo weighed.

We were loaded down to the marks (nautical expression) with the awning, guitar, bedding, personal effects, copious amounts of duty free and even quite literally the kitchen sink.

The total weight with us sat in the front cab seats was 2340kg

The rear axle weight was 1290kg

By subtraction that makes the front axle weight 1050kg

Without us the total vehicle weight was 2210kg

(making our weight 130kg which is about right with me at 75kg & Lynda 55kg)

Diesel tank, water and gas tanks were probably 75% full.

Our tyres are 215/50R17/91V all round.

What do you experts out there make of all this?

Were we overladen?

Are the tyres up to it?

The maximum allowed weight for a 91 rating tyre is 1230 kg per axle - that makes the rear tyres overloaded, even more so when you filled the tank...........

Are the tyres reinforced? we run with four children two adults and full camping gear loaded, never weighed the bongo, but much happier since I fitted reinforced tyres all round. We also have spring assisters fitted on rear springs, which may help or not?
