Tow bar for new shape Bongo

Post by stig444 » Mon Sep 16, 2013 4:00 pm

Does anyone know if there are problems getting a suitable towbar for the new shape Bongo. Ours is V reg TD 2.5 and we want to tow a folding caravan but one company said as its post 1995 its not type approved for towing and Towsure aren't confident that the bar they suggest would fit! Does anyone out there have the new shape post 1995 that they tow with?

A1 make MA465 which is the best towbar in terms of strength that I've come across for the Bongo. I've fitted a couple of these for use with a towbar mounted rack as they have much bigger plates that fit to the chassis rails to help prevent the rack from bouncing (as can be seen here above the gas tank):

On an early style bumper, you'll end up with most of the box section visible, but on the later Aero models (approx 2001 onwards) the rear valance covers it up nicely although it will need trimming slightly.

You can by them direct from A1, but there are suppliers on eBay who do them for around about £100.
