Mazda alloy wheels

Post by Jeff and Debzi » Thu Sep 12, 2013 9:30 pm

hi there,
can anyone tell me if these wheels are ok to use on our Bongo aero? they are off a Mazda MK3 MX5 16x6.5 I cannot find any info of the wheel load but I think the tyres were 87w.

I can buy right tyres but not sure about the wheel load or do I only after worry about the right tyres..

Thanks

You will need to check the offset i.e. the relative positions of the centre of the tyre and the fixing point

Still not sure but I do know that MX5 Mk3 owners put RX8 18" alloys on their car with no problems ..

There are quite a lot of threads on the site about wheels. Or rather rims and tyres and rolling diameters and loading and the effect on speedometers so on. This site http://www.wheelfitment.net/mazda suggests that the rims you have will fit OK but that is only the start of it. Then you need to get the tyres right. I use Mazda 6 rims (16*7 with 55m offset) fitted with 215/65 R16 98H tyres with no problems after a couple of years use.
Try searching the forum for lots more information or check out the facts sheet section. Hope that helps.
Welcome to Bongo land :D

Just looked back a bit and found;

"BTW I did a little research into weight bearing since I know that there could be concern over using car wheels on a van....

Vehicle Kerb Weight (Kg): Gross Weight (Kg)
Bongo 4wd 1700: 2260
Mazda 6 saloon 1485: 2010
Mazda 6 estate 1575: 2145
Mazdza RX8 1430: 1815
Mazda CX7 MPV 1 790: 2430"

To which I can add that the Gross Weight for an MX 5 is quoted as 1365Kg. Draw your own conclusions as to whether these rims are up to it.
