Basically I cobbled together the requisite combination of layers of hardboard and pine shelving to just not fit down the slot bisecting the cup holder depressions in the centre binnacle, applied some Surform (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Surform) until it fitted, then made it look a load neater with some sawing that would have got me mentioned in dispatches during even the most viscera-strewn of Napoleonic battlefields.
With the application of a thick builders shim (the device's rating not its intended market segment) the up-tilted display could be enjoyed by all, would not be knocked over as a result of an unexpected bit of "hows-your-father" triggered by the drinking scene in Eisensteins "Mutiny on the Battleship Potemkin", and the grey plastic coating of the centre console wouldn't end up looking like it had had a dry shag with an Ankylosaurus who had never really learned how to treat a lady
Any road up, here it is, the video is on YouTube and I now have a far more important thing to address, tea, milk, two sugars .... the woodwork needs some finishing and a light wafting from a can of best match spray paint!
