aircon compressor v6
Hi guys we recently bought a 1999 ford Freda v6 and are loving it!
The climate control doesn't work and on further inspection has a missing ac belt and what appears to be a seized compressor (doesn't turn by hand)
my question is can any bongo compressor be used to replace it diesel etc or another Mazda group one
Many thanks in advance
rob

Hi Rob,
I'm gonna stick my neck out & say it's the same compressor pump as the diesel....? Though I've only ever fitted one to a diesel. Best to make sure though..!!!
A quick test to make sure the second hand replacement works (not seized as well?) when you get one before bolting & plumbing it in, is connect the single wire, earth the body of the pump to the chassis by resting it on the nearest chassis point as much as the wire & connector will allow.. then switch on the AC? The magnetic clutch will engage & you should turn it by hand....
Bolt the pump to the side of the engine working diagonally....
Hope this helps..?

Re: aircon compressor v6
Interesting!! Be careful my compressor is in with a company in Birmingham. They have said its completely scrap and full of crud and filaments and stuff. They have said that before refitting a compressor the system needs to be removed and replaced and all the pipes fully cleaned and they will need it for 3 days as it has to dry out etc. They said if you dont do this you will be looking for another compressor v soon. Also I have to check why the fans arent cooling the engine properly. Good luck - where are you? Discount Trucks have loads of diesel ones that they would fit - just no petrol ones

I'm no real "spanner man"... More into auto electrics really.. Just bought a used compressor pump from a guy recommended by Simon Jones, some seals & belts from the BF shop.. Got the guy who was going to re-gass my system before i discovered the pump was shot to drain it (responsibly!!) Changed the compressor, fitted the final belt, did the test for leaks then gassed up using the guide lines from the Fury fact sheet..rjduncanuk wrote:Hi many thanks for your replies!

I had looked up some Youtube how to stuff regarding fitting an AC compressor in a Ford Ranger which was the closest thing i could think of just so i could get my head round what's involved?? I figure if you can change an alternator...?!

Do you mean when you switch the AC on..? I think if there is no or V little gas in the system the fans wont operate??flossie wrote:IAlso I have to check why the fans arent cooling the engine properly.
There is a pressure sensor switch in the top of the jar by the condenser..?

Re: aircon compressor v6
if you unplug the switch that jaylee is on about and put a bridging wire across the plug end then switch it on the fans should work.
Re: aircon compressor v6
I concur with Ady... But if the compressor pump has seized? I would also unplug the single wire connector going to it to stop the magnetic clutch engaging...
... Having said that the belt may have snapped so no real need..!

The V6 is a different pump to the diesel one unfortunately ...
