my bongo cutting out problem !!!!!!!!!!!!

Post by micksbongo » Tue Sep 11, 2012 8:23 pm

just a quick question, my bongo has been fine for years and latley it has
developed a cutting out problem , only once it gets hot and up to running
temp, its an automatic and its fine when i have my foot down, but when i
coast and its just ticking over i see the revs dieing and have to catch it
on the throttle. then when i go to crank it over it cranks for a long period
of time then comes back to life. i am a mechanic myself but do not have any
dianostic gear for the Mazda socket. and dont no much about this engine,
check the basics. was thinking posible crank or cam sensor, or fuel pressure
or some thing on the pump.

Hey, welcome to our world. Ours too does the exact same thing for no apparent reason! Still getting problem looked into but if you find out what's causing your problem, please do let me know! The frustration of it all is driving us nuts!

Mrs M
It's pointless asking me......... I haven't got a clue!

If diesel, it could be leaky seals or other fault on the injector pump resulting in insuffient fuel delivery. If petrol, it could be fault with ignition system or the in-tank pump. For either engine, it would be worth changing the fuel filter and also run it with a loosened filler cap to see if there is a problem with the breather system.

Hi,

My Bongo doing the same thing also, it's V6 petrol. So if anyone has any ideas please let us know as it is very frustraiting. Suprising though it actually runs graet apart from this issue.
An additional question is this. What type of fault code reader would I need for this engine (seen loads on e-bay & amazon), where would I find the socket to plug it into & where would I find the information to make sense of the codes?

Looking foward to responses.

Cheers

My LPG V6 used to be a bit iffy when ticking over or slowing down for speed bumps and the like ..

I fitted a new dizzy cap .. rotor .. leads and plugs and the improvement is amazing ..

Now Hums along runs / ticks over like a sewing machine ..

Thanks for some of the advice, the electrics are all sorted on the van. All new HT equipment fitted not so long back, so can rule out electrical/HT problems.
Thought that perhaps the engine management system may have logged some fault codes that could be of help. Hence the question about diagnostic plug and code readers etc.
