Looked through the archives and fact sheets but still puzzled. The hold light came on and went into safe mode ( third gear ) I had the ATF changed and the filter cleaned as a first step and a 5 mile test run was fine. Next day after a short run the hold light came on again. If I stop the engine and restart all is fine for a while and on it comes again. Did the diagnostic bit and code 6 or 66 came up. Been on a 10 mile trip today and no light ! Any ideas ?
Thanks in anticipation, Bill.

Re: Hold Light
Was the ATF checked .. after .. the engine as been running for a few minutes .. as the torque converter takes more fluid than the sump does ..
The ATF is checked with the engine running .. the hand brake on .. box moved from 'L' to 'P' several times then left in 'P' when checking .. with the engine still running ..

Re: Hold Light
Had Auto Transmissions in Barnsley diagnose the fault and told a solenoid pack is needed. £700 plus vat. The unit is £500 so looking to have it done. Anyone had the same job done ?

Re: Hold Light
I also had a problem with hold light, but flashing. I think this has been cured by removing the speedo chip (time will tell) when I did some reaseach I found AVA leisure can supply the solenoids, around £150 I think. Hope this helps.

Re: Hold Light
Just for info, a flashing hold light indicates an electrical issue with the transmission electrical systems only. So changing oil & filter, whilst worthwhile as a service function, may be a waste of money if (as in this case) the sump has to come off anyway. Changing the oil after you have a problem is usually pointless, a bit like topping the coolant up after the head gasket has gone. They don't heal up!

Re: Hold Light
don't know if it helps but, I've been having a case of intermittent hold light this week (just as I'm about to sell her!!!), I disconnected the split charger relay, drove 60 miles and (currently) have no light on, all gears available etc etc had her up to 70mph.
Might be worth checking, my relay cost £10 from fleabay, 7 years ago...might just have reached the end of its useful life
worth a shot!
hope you get sorted

Re: Hold Light
i agree that the flashing hold light does not just refer to faults in the tranny it is also linked in to the charging side, problems with either zig units and other split charge systems do give flashing hold light.
this isnt to be confused with steady hold light and limp mode though.

Re: Hold Light
Had the Bongo repaired. Line pressure solenoid. This is what came up when I used the diagnostic as advised on the forum. CODE 66. I had the fluid changed firstly because on the forum it was said that this sometimes cures the flashing light. The garage said they had trouble locating a solenoid. I shall be looking for the flashing hold light now for the next few days.
