Hi Guys
Having some fuelling issues and after some filter changes we think that the problem may be a clogged fuel pickup strainer. I have got to the tank access hatch but am not sure if I have to remove the plate with all the connections/pipes on to get to the strainer or whether the round tank pickup pipe connector turns to come out. If I have to remove the whole plate it looks like the screws are all rusted and will need drilled out and replaced
Any help guys would be great

I can't help you on your specific question and you don't say what your symptoms are or what engine you've got, but a couple of quick checks for common things shouldn't do any harm...
Have you checked the banjo filter?
Does it run better with the tank cap loosened? If so, have you checked for a clogged tank cap and/or breather pipe?
Try removing one or other of the fuel pipes from the filter body and blowing back (I'm not sure which - someone else may be able to help). You may or may not want to do this before removing the pickup/strainer - I'm not familiar with the guts themselves.

I have a 2.5 Diesel engine. Yeah changed the fuel filter then cleaned the banjo filter, connected a hose to the fuel in end of the filter and blow into the tank. Gave a pop as the crap got blown out and seemed fine for a couple of days then symptoms returned. Blew back down the fuel line and fine again until it got clogged again. Can only assume that it is crap clogging up the fuel pickup

I had this happen to me a couple of years ago and ended up having to fit a replacement fuel tank.
Mine had solidified gunk at the bottom of the tank. I only figured it out because the tank capacity went down to 62 litres.

Does anyone know what size/type screws I will need to the replace the 8 screws on the fuel tank access plate?

Do you mean the ones in the floor or the tank itself? I think they are big self-tappers, but you should be able re-use them without any issues.

had the same problem with these screws what i did was cut a slot in them with a junior hacksaw got a sharp flat head screwdrive and shocked each screw ie hit the scewdriver with a hamer into the slot i cut i was then able to remove the rusted screws and cleal the feed pipe.wattg wrote:Does anyone know what size/type screws I will need to the replace the 8 screws on the fuel tank access plate?
i put coper grease on the screws before replceing them .

This is from a V6, but the idea is the same. Get a decent screwdriver bit in the end of a socket set so you can give it extra leverage and the screws should come out ok.
