hi dabs and thanks but its defo not any fuse but I've read through the previous pages on this forum, there was some mention of ambient temperature system on the Bongo that makes the glow plugs kick in when cold. I am not sure how true this is, it is a new one on me. I am at my wits end with this one. Thanks for replying. I am also a rugby league fan coming from Wigan myself - yes, the enemy!!!!! LOL

I was reading my owners manual the other day and I thought I saw a reference to flashing glow plug light and what it meant (it has an extra function rather like a flashing 'Hold' light). Have you checked your manual? I'll go and look in mine and get back with anything I find (even if it is nothing - my memory isnt great these days) *

best

Mike

PS - * that's if the wife doesn't shout at me to get on with Christmas duties

I'm hoping some Bongo gurus are reading this so can comment:

The Owners Manual, in the Section called WARNING LIGHTS on Page 92, shows the coiled wire symbol for two things.

One of them is the obvious one i.e. The display light will appear when preheating the engine

The other says (quote):
Scavenging Fan Warning Light For Diesel Vehicle (Grade Option)
This warning light will appear when there is a fault in the scavenging fan. Stop the vehicle immediately in a safe place and contact your Mazda dealer.

However, note it says nothing about flashing. In other examples (like the Automatic Roof Opening Warning) it makes it clear that i does flash. I think the term 'Grade Option' means it is a bit of optional extra equipment (sounds puzzling in this case - is a scavengin fan optional!?!).

So I would be wary just in case (I see that the 'Hold' light flashing mode is used to communicate a variety of fault codes for example). But with any luck, your flashing light will turn out (just like the thread Dabs pointed to) to be something trivial.

Bloody annoying though isnt it!

I'd suggest you get drunk, so you cant drive, collapse in an armchair and watch a good movie (anyone would think it was Christmas  )

Just snuck away from the family Christmas for a quick Bongo. I suspect your flashing light is a false alarm, but its tricky to risk it. I presume you've tried various tricks like disconnecting the battery and reconnecting it again?

With luck some of the experienced Bongoers will return to the Forum once they've recovered from Christmas drinking and may be able to give a more educated opinion than me. Also, I've noted the name of an experienced Bongo mechanic recommended recently by two separate people on Bongo Forum. He does all Mancheser Campers work, is said to be excellent and reasonable on charges. His name is Adrian and he is at Japan Direct Service Centre, Bury on 0161-763-3003 (actually shown as Japan Direct Parts I think on yell.com).

Might be worth trying them (after Boxing Day I guess) if they are not too far off.

Hope it goes OK

best

The scavange fan is the big air fan in the engine compartment. It's powered by a sensor in the engine compartment which detects the compartment temperature and operates the fan.
Check the wires and connections to the sensor (I think its the one dangling into space under the left cober, near the cam cover)
