Cabinet alteration help please

Post by Philjones » Tue Jun 18, 2013 9:43 pm

Hi everyone
This is a long shot that anyone on here will be able to help. We have a fridge problem. Our bongo has a side conversion with two storage cabinets with the same size door on each. Inside one we have an outwell coolbox that came with the bongo but after using it for the last two weekends we have realised that it's rubbish, nowhere near cool enough. The thing is the door to the cabinet is quite small so we drove the bongo to a large camping shop that stocked the whole waeco fridge And coolbox range. We tried the CDF 18 and 11 and they won't fit through the door. We also tried the tropicool 14litre which also didn't fit!! the space inside the cupboard would be big enough if we could only get it through the door but it's just too narrow. As the cupboard is under the sink we don't have the option to replace the whole cupboard with a fridge as they are all too tall. The only solution we can think of is to see if any bongo conversion companies could cut out and widen the door opening and fit a bigger door. Does anyone think this would be possible and what's the likelihood of them being able to get the same wood to match (it's grey but with a kind of checked pattern, which I have seen in other vans).
We live in Bristol, does anyone know of anyone we could approach nearby.

Cheers guys

It's probably Vohringer ply.
I altered our conversion using normal DIY tools. The problem is that Vohringer is expensive and usually you can only buy it in big sheets.

Have you tried the Dometic DS200?

They are about the smallest proper fridge I know of and as they are only 65w can be powered by an inverter too

Did you try the Waeco CRP-40, with the detachable compressor? Thats what most Bongo's have if they have a fridge. What dimensions are your doors? and how deep are the cupboards they reveal? Have a look at http://www.obrienscamping.co.uk/Fridges ... crp-40.htm.
