air conditioning fan not working

Post by Paulinwales » Tue Apr 30, 2013 12:41 pm

My a/c has finally stopped working any ideas on getting it sorted

History
Btw it's the older manual set one not a digital one. The unit was
was working on all switch levels apart from full (4), So i tried a new fan resistor (no change), then was on a long drive and could smell plastic type burning smell. a/c now no longer works in that the fan no longer works - I have put a manual switch direct to the fan and this works (full on or nothing) as it should.

The a/c hot and cold actually works it's the switch that does not. I have taken the rotary switch off and tested it it works? :? - I also took it aprt and nothing burning. So i must conclude it must be some wire looming?
I have replaced the fan resistor with a set from another bongo when it was working before and this did not alter the a/c working - still would not work on 4

just wondering what's causing the problem and any solutions, any ideas
I can verify the switch and the fan resistor works ok

if there is not a straight forward solution i might consider a variable resistor (rotary to regulate the fan from the bonnet) I would just set to sensible value (cool but not noisy) and leave. would anyone know what wattage it would need to be? I am guessing the fan can take alot of juice judging from the sound of it.

Check the plug is fully in at the back of the control unit.

Other than the previous suggestions.......
On top of the drier bottle..... at the side of the Air Con Rad is a brown connector.... remove this... link across with some cable... inch or so long.... and try your air con.... should kick the fan in... if it does....... then... You need your air con re-gassed....

Make sure the Belt is OK and the Compressor is not seized.

fixed - made a direct fused link to battery direct with a switch in the cabin so just goes on and off - the a/c radiator was never the problem only the link to the fan resistor somewhere
