Outwell cool box malfunction

Hi all
I've been using an outwell cool/hotbox purchased last year from the Bongo Fury site, model bcr 24a, for day trips and its worked well. I've recently returned from a camping holiday where the thing was used more intensely and it contaminated the food in it with a strong smell of TCP. Does anyone know what caused this? I'm reluctant to use it again as we had to throw away the contaminated food.
