portable 'fridges

I've just been looking at Dometic portable 3-way 'fridges....it seems that they only cool UP TO 30 degrees below ambient temp. and this isn't anywhere near what we need...is there any make that offers better without having to order from the 'States or Australia?

Funny that, me too, just been looking..

Waeco seem to be good, but far too rich for me.

Can anyone recommend a 2 or 3-way fridge that'll hold enough for us 2 and not cost the earth?

Hi Derek...
Have you seen the portable 'fridges at the £700.00 - £900.00 mark?...I can't believe that anyone would pay that much for a poxy little 'fridge that doesn't even look nice.......the standard Dometic / other firms offerings up to £250.00 don't seem so bad, but frankly, I wouldn't pay the earth for something portable enough to get "snaffled" by wandering scroats . The big issue for us is that it gets warm over here, and elsewhere we're likely to go, like Greece, and if they only cool to 30 below ambient, we could end up with food kept at 15 degrees....total waste!

Oh yes, know Greece well..different kettle of fish entirely!!

We're just trotting round UK, maybe a bit of France, currently with a Halfrauds coolbox.

I need a small second fridge at home, so looking for something that can double up, so I guess it's going to have to be a 'coolbox' rather than a full-on fridge for us.

In all the years I've been camping (45- 50 years), I've only used a coolbox and freezer-blocks. We tend to cook some dinners at home, and freeze them down, and bung them in the box along with the freezer-blocks, and put milk/ butter in last with the bacon....EVERYTHING gets frozen, meat, bangers, the lot...and in all that time, I've never had meat go bad , or got gyppy tum...I even take the first night's scran frozen in a cooking pot to pop on the barbie.....We find that even up to 30 degree heat, you get 4 days good food if you don't open the box often....We went camping with friends up in the foothills a few years back, and we put food in the river in bags....I think a fridge is pretty well over-kill for long weekends....BUT we want to spend time in Greece, so a 'fridge would suit!
I remember at a campsite in the UK some years back, a family that had a 'fridge that was a 3-way, that was so efficient that it almost froze everything....but I can't remember the name!

Have you looked at the Vitrifrigo site Helen ?
The C42 is popular and the catalogue says between -10 and +10 but I guess it will also have a max. heat thruput as well but they are intended for marine and lorry use see http://www.vitrifrigo.com/pdf/catalogo_ ... sporti.pdf

I just had a look at that site, thanks...the portable C41 (I'm not putting one inside the Bongo) is over £500.00 ....I may just convert our trailer to a mobile kitchen some time, but for the moment I need something portable....It would be nice at home to pop on the verandah, but we would probably look at a mini-bar for that........now if only I could find a 3-way mini-bar!!!!...I may just expand the search...

The Electrolux RM212 (a common caravan fridge), in my old van, only works fully at temperatures below 32C, with some measure of cooling up to about 35°C, so it looks like you'll struggle to find a 3 way that will cope with 40C and above.
