V6 Petrol Cutting out/rough tickover when hot/warmed up.

Post by windywatson » Mon May 06, 2013 2:17 pm

Of recent, when the van has done a long journey & is realy warmed up it exhibits the following problem. Say I've driven for an hour and pull up on camp site, the van will be running fine on tick over. If I then switch off to go and un hitch or other similar short duration activity & restart the van it will hunt on tickover and sometimes stall. I have to then restart and rev the engine a bit to get it to run smooth again. If I'm only doing short journeys I don't have this problem at all. I can be out and about round town, in and out of the van and the tick over behaives perffect.

Help please as it's getting to be more regular.

Cheers.

I get this sometimes with my V6, in similar circumstances to those you have described. I had always thought it was related the old 'vacuum created by the fuel cap' issue. When it happened the other day, I loosened the fuel cap (heard the air rush in), then restarted again and it was fine.

I find the petrol tank is under pressure, so air rushes out when I take the filler cap off. Either way, it's worth cracking it open to see whether it makes a difference.

Agree when cold. But after a half hour run with a hot engine, mine creates a vacuum.
