Howdy stranger :D

The broken stud itself isn't visible as it's hidden behind the heat shield, but the failure evidence is there. On the close up photo above the dipstick and just to the above/right of where the three small hoses are clipped, you can see a lot of dry black sooty deposits. This is escaping from the front of the exhaust manifold (rather than going down the exhaust) so there will be a gap in the exhaust manifold gasket sealing the manifold to the head. Very likely (almost definite) culprit is a broken stud rather than a simple gasket failure, but you could be lucky [-o<

sorry but it is visible,
or in this case it isnt, if you see what i mean.
the hole is visible at the left of end of the manifold, there should be a stud end visible with a nut on it, in your case its fallen out. look to the right of the (tree) where the three pipes come together.

sometimes you get all the sooty symptoms and the noise but the stud/nut is still present but if you put a spanner on it it just spins because its snapped but still sat there. check and or replace all the others particularly at no8 stud as they may have stretched too.

sorry im a puter duck egg so cannot do those pretty arrows and stuff. #-o .

i have a few manifolds that i have had machined if anyone needs, and ian at the bongo shop sells the studs/nuts and gasket.

Thank you Geoff! =D>
I'll take a look at mine later today and see if that might be the reason my bongo is driving me nuts!

Thanks for the welcome peeps :)

Well i managed my 1st weekend away as i cant get it into the garage till next weekend. Kept the revs as low as possible until it heats up then its not quite so bad, had a magic weekend for our 1st one away with cracking weather and some fun times sorting everything out :P

I couldn't see it at all until I played with the levels! I reckon it might be visible on Laptop screens if you tilt/twist it sufficiently!
