In the beginning there was nothing , then God said "Let there be Light".....There was still nothing , but ,by crikey, you could see it better.
Re: Astra Headlights
Hi cheers, I did find the thread, but they wont fit mine, I found a german site selling really nice light units for various cars and i thought I may have been able to fit some, but no.

Re: Astra Headlights
They already look brighter than Bongo lamps, without even being switched on!

Re: Astra Headlights
Hi
They don't fit too well at the top....the gap above is filled with amber LEDs linked to the indicators....end result looks fair!....for real darkness there's the KC daylighters!
at eye-ball searing wattage
.....
There are more lighting mods to come ...hidden behind the grille
Cheers

Aye. Fact is nothing works better than a pair of beefy spotlights wired to come on with main beam (i think daveblueozzie has ones with a dipped beam also). You need a fender defender bar to mount them on mind you.helen&tony wrote:Hi

Re: Astra Headlights
Hi Mike...
Welllllll....one just HAS to have some (ahem) legal spotlights on one's FDBs, doesn't one....
....apart from the fact that if I ever venture forth at night here, you have to have a set of lamps brighter than the other car's headlights, as the oncoming driver is more than likely as drunk as a skunk after 3.00 PM and can't find the dipswitch!....they're good at finding grass verges and ditches to drive on / in , though...
especially with your lights coming towards them

Re: Astra Headlights
Hi
Cheffy
Not easy to fit, but I dismembered the old Bongo lights, and glassed the mounts from the old lights onto the new Astra ones....I took a mould of the old indicators, and from the mould I've formed a plug to wrap heated perspex on to make clear indicators...still not got around to that, as I have to find the right grade of perspex yet!...The top of the new lights is a bit low, so I filled the gap with some amber LEDs to act as auxiliary indicators. The grill is the Mazda original with the centre cut out and an inch or two shaved off the edges outside. and the inner edge built up with plastic filler, and the back is filled with foam and glassed before bonding the mesh on. I still have to neaten up the headlights under the bonnet. The polished alloy buttons are for grill removal
The photo is an older one, as I now have a set of Phillips Luxeon Rebel DRL s recessed into the panel under the headlights, and I've modded them to dim when the sidelights go on, which are Angel Eye rings round the headlamps
There is a fair old bit of wiring to add to the Bongo for the lamps, and that is still to be tidied, but I've already started another wee
project on the Bongo...
If you want more details, just ask
Cheers
