V6 Tickover

Post by jojay5 » Mon Apr 29, 2013 9:17 pm

My Bongo has started to have the odd tremble at Tickover once up to running temperature - noticeable at traffic lights. I have recently changed the spark plugs, distributor cap and rotor arm which has improved things slightly. Now before I spend more money on a full set of Mazda HT Leads do you think this is probably the cause?
I noticed tonight that when I put it in reverse it seemed to stutter and tremble a bit more?
It does this running on LPG and Petrol.
Thanks in advance

Its twice proved to be the leads/connectors for us. In the end I invested in a complete set of leads and the problem was fixed! Including worse in reverse.
Its quite easy to see if you have a problem, unplug each connector at the spark plug end, and carefully examine the insulation down the length of the solid tube, chances are you will spot an area of burning where the insulation has broken down, it will most likely look like a small spiders web on the surface where the tracking takes place this becomes carbonised and then continues to breakdown further. I'll dig one out tomorrow and take a photo for you.

Thanks Geoff
The leads are 14 years old after all so I suppose it stands a good chance. Comforting to know you had the same in reverse.
I will be calling Bongo Towers Tomorrow to place an order!

All running smooth again thankfully.
It was the HT leads but no evident signs of a problem on the old ones. They did seem very brittle though.
Thanks again Geoff.
