HELP! Bongo lost revs!
Moderators: Doone, westonwarrior
I've also had a similar problem on Saturday. Limped home from Basingstoke to MK and in the light of Sunday morning found that an air pipe had come off. I had exactly the same sucking noise and loss of power/revs.
The air pipe in question was under the drivers seat....on the extreme top right hand side as you look in there's a metal curved joint which has a the inlet manifold joining it from the left, a large plastic air pipe joining onto it from underneath, and a rusty metal pipe joining it from above and a little rubber pipe joining from the side . Well the large plastic pipe had come loose. Make sure this is not the case on yours, if it is loose or if the little rubber pipe is not connected at either end then you will get these symptoms.
BUT, don't ignore the little pip which is loose under the passenger side!
If it's connected to the turbo then it's vital! Sorry I don't have a pic of the turbo to help.
Good luck, Rob

right, ok i''m going to have another look in a moment then! definitely the drivers side, not the passenger side? there should be some kind of rope system to keep those seats up! while we were just looking we found our intake filter under the drivers seat is particulary dirty which may be contributing? Would a hole in the exhaust be a possible reason? the engine sounds quite throaty apparently...
by jove man you've done it! it was that exact same pipe, the plastic one blown off the metal one. Now re-attached and sounding much healthier! i just took it out for a spin, but didn't realise it was rush hour in all th excitement, so didnt quite get it up to speed, however it sounds magical again, all throatiness and sluggishness gone!
THANKYOU, looks like i will be going home for christmas without spending millions of pounds on the national rail.
hooray!

....and a happy Christmas to you all.....Alan

Alan...still plodding on....!
I am in complete apprecitation, thanks to all who helped. Everyday i learn a little more about my bongo.
It was kind of funny though at the weekend...driving to a hotel on small uphill/downhill lanes in the peak district, having to take a lengthy run up when a gradient was in site...hoping to god there wasn't a car coming the other way......crawling up the hill at 5mph knowing that the driver stuck behind wanted to get home for his tea at least some time tonight...in the pouring rain..and dark. Hang on did i say 'funny'?
onwards and upwards!
