emptying fuel tank

Post by Paulinwales » Sat Apr 13, 2013 3:46 pm

Had a good look under the tank for a bleed bung, can't see one and can't see where the pipes out out of it. I was wanting to completely empty the tank as i have been running high % veg oil for a few years and want to check for crud. ANy ideas how to do this eaily without creating mess?

To clean the filter was going to plow down the fuel line?

Quickest way to empty it is to drive the van :). If you just want to inspect it, removing the cover on the top is probably best, but you'll need to get the carpet out the way first. This is my V6 petrol tank, but the diesel one is much the same:

If you do want to empty it, you could remove the pipe at the bottom which goes to the filler neck. To blow down the fuel line, disconnect it from the top of the tank. Diagram here:

unfortunately I have a wooden floor and cupboards fitted so only option is remove the filler pipe.

Is there a type of pump that will suck everything out? might be alot easier and would also be useful for changing the atf?

Thanks in advance

You could have blown it out if you had,the other alternative is simply siphon it out or use one of these, and you can also use it to change oils etc.

Good luck..
