Bongo 2.5D Thermography

Post by Velocette » Thu Apr 18, 2013 11:12 am

I managed to borrow an Infra Red camera the otherday and did some thermography of my Bongo.

I posted the images on Allan's Facebook Page for speed, Link http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set= ... 957&type=1. You shouldn't need to be a Facebook user to see these although you may need to copy the link into a browser window.

If people are interested I will resize them all nad host them somewhere and post them directly. I will re interrogate the results to get the maximum temperature in each pic as these just show the temperature in the centre of the shot. The original pics contain lots of data but these are just snapshots of the infra red files.

The car had been driven for fifteen minutes from cold and had idled for about five minutes. The temperature guage, back of the head sensor was reading 83. Looking at the photos, the head flange is the hottest part apart from the exhaust, which one might expect. Obviously the coolant temperature will be lower than the hottest spots.

Cool!!! And other temperature-related exclamations... ;)

Can't quite tell what each picture is, though. Fun, nevertheless!

If you look closely in siome of them the outer photo gives it away. I didn't know they would come out like this or I would have done it in daylight. You can see the shape of the drivers side engine cover on one and most of the ones with a long white area are the head taken from the passenger side. There are two of the expansion tank, you can just see a fuseholder and cable and the label of my leisure battery.

If I can get my hands on the software again I can probably burn in the outer picture a bit so the surroundings can be identified.

I think that is the oil filler cap. I took a few along the line of the head gasket because I thought they were most interesting. Would have been good to takes some after the car had stood for a few minutes to get an idea what heat soak does. The radiator and heater matrices are a bit hard to get at. I did point it at the rear heater but It was just an even orrange colour with the shapes of the outlets visible, would have needed the trim panel off to be useful. Lovely tool but we only get it once a year to do our electrical distribution boards and swirchgear. The Software is brilliant it does a lot more than just take pictures.
