Roof won't open

Post by bevincham » Thu Apr 18, 2013 12:39 pm

Hi, I know thsi topic has been covered before on hte forum, but I didn't really understand the replies :(

I am a newish Bongo owner, in Chamonix in France and have just liberated my Bongo from the snow. All works fine, except the roof won't open. The red dashboard light flashes all the time, but the roof is fully closed. Pushing the open / closed button, nothing happens at all, so its probably electrical. I have no idea what fuse to check etc.
The handbrake is on and the gears in P.

Any easy to follow help? There is no Bongo dealer for miles a round and the French garages are none too helpful.

Hi, welcome!

Fuse is under/left of the steering wheel - second row, 4th one along, 30A.

Check on the dash - do you get the (P) parking light when handbrake is on and does it go off when you release the handbrake? If there's no (P) light, then remove the plastic center console, go to the back of the handbrake to the plunger switch and follow the cable - check it's connected to something. Last weekend, mine wasn't.

Alternatively, there's probably a microswitch for when the gear select is in park - I don't know... check the operation of the handbrake light/switch first.

Light flashing all the time could be a duff microswitch in the roof, or a fault with the AFT control unit itself - is there no beeping from the control box which is up behind the trim by the rear driver's side speaker at the back row? Or is it a converted van you've got?

Good luck - either this helps you, or someone else will be able to... ;)

Best
Matt.

Thanks Matt,

The fuse seems to be OK.

The P parking light does not come on/off. I followed the cable from the handbrake and it was connected to something...

There is no beeping, no nothing.

I'll try to find someone who knows something about auto-electrics here to see if they can help. All talk of microswitches is beyond me!

Thanks, Bev

Great news... I think you're getting close!

Try unplugging and reconnecting that wire - you may have to push a wee plastic tab down while pulling to get the connector to come apart. Take a picture if you can - there's instructions on here for how to post pictures, but I'll PM you my email address - might be easier.

If you get help and someone fixes it for you, that'd work too! ;)

Hi again Matt,

Thanks for your help. It was the contacts of the parking brake plunger which we cleaned up and hey presto it opens!

Am SO impressed with Bongo Fury and your help,
