Click on starting

Occasionally on starting I turn key and nothing just a click. Turn it back again try again and starts as normal. Any ideas what it could be.

Hi
1/. Poor battery connection
2/. Bad earth
3/. Started contacts
No. 3 is usually a good bet. Cheap fix.

I have the same problem and push or wiggle the gear leaver in Park while turning key.

And if its no3 which its very likely to be..it'll get worse until it won't start at all ! In France I perfected the 'bongo bounce' it involves raising ones rear end sufficiently high enough before lowering it quickly and sharply onto the seat(it must be the drivers seat). After this you should find the car starts

Sounds like it could be no3 which kit should I order. Is it an easy job to do I have ten thumbs.

Hi, it is an easy job. There's a fact sheet in the members area describing how it's done called "Starter Motor".

I made the mistake of undoing the wrong bolts to start off with (I took the 2 long bolts off the start motor)...I could wiggle the start motor but couldn't figure how to get it clear of the shaft..seemed like it was very close but not quite..lots of head scratching until I realised what i'd done

Follow the instructions and you'll be fine.

Might as well get the package that includes the plunger...it's such a small cost.

Hi al & chris,before you order one of these kits,make Sure that the vehicle does not have a Heavy Duty starter fitted,if so these kits are Not compatible.

Hi,
the ebay link above has the model numbers that it fits in the description..you should be able to see the model number on a sticker on the starter motor (might need wiping to see that there's a sticker there !)..just match them up to see..

They look different and you would have the winter pack fitted which typically consists of twin starter batteries and the warm-up device in the exhaust pipe. Pretty certain the spares kit will only work with the standard motor as the heavy duty one cannot be dismantled. More info on identifying type:
