Tailgate Lock
The central locking on my Bongo has stopped working and now the lock on the tailgate has also stopped working with the key. Can anyone recommend a good garage in the Chesterfield area that could fix this for me?
Re: Tailgate Lock
It is most likely the loom broken where it passes into the driver's door.
Simple fix, or I just live with it. Any auto electrician should easily sort it, or simple diy.
Welcome aboard.
Edit, not sure why the tailgate key isn't working, but having the panel off may reveal all, good luck.

Re: Tailgate Lock
Try a squirt of WD40 in the the tailgate lock key hole. As it gets such little use, it does tend to get quite stiff.
Re: Tailgate Lock
Thank you Bob. We were "just living with it" as far as the central locking goes but do need to sort the lock out. I'll try removing the panel as suggested. Hopefully it will be easy to do.
Re: Tailgate Lock
Check the non sprung contacts on the sliding door post with a volt meter.. If you get a constant 12v from one of the contacts, it could be the C/L relay that governs all the passenger & boot locks???
The relay is only meant to send a short pulse, so pull the fuse on the C/L till fixed because the locking solenoids don't like a constant voltage it could burn em out...??!!
Re the key; do you have another key to try?? Ya never know, the one your using could be one of those fabled "valet keys"....?

...and I think that once you've got a crop of these good suggestions, any suitable auto-electrical competent small friendly outfit in Chesterfield ought yo be able to diagnose and fix. There's a few Bongos in Chesterfield. Might be useful to find out who they use (LoneRanger is one owner who comes to mind)
Re: Tailgate Lock
Thanks for your replies. There is no problem with the keys or the lock as they have worked previously. If I cannot fix it myself I'll look at the "fury" preferred garage list.
Re: Tailgate Lock
I have to admit, though i didn't have the same problem with the rear lock as yourself, i did have to clean mine out as it was clogged with what appeared to be old Jap newspaper which affected the negative earth for the rear courtesy light...??

Hi
Probably very common problem with the tailgate lock...I keep meaning to stick a bit of tape over mine...the mud and dirt just gets in and it doesn't want to play ball on the rare occasion that you need it!
Cheers

Re: Tailgate Lock
Thanks again Bob and others. I have fixed the central locking, there was a broken wire, and I have fixed the tailgate so it can at least be opened with the internal handle. For some reason that I cannot fathom it still will not unlock with the key externally. There must be a disconnected link somewhere but I cannot see it and I have bruised knuckles to show for it lol.
So unless someone knows the answer I'll say "beep beep"

Re: Tailgate Lock
Hi
I've heard that Bongo locks can be a bit "iffy"...certainly my tailgate lock is hard to operate, but the good thing is that thieves will have difficulty!...I only use mine on the Central locking, or the inside handle....don't worry!
Cheers
