Metallic thump
Hi all - help needed in identifying a metallic thumping sound and a jarring from (I think) the rear off side. Only occurs when going over a speed hump while turning - there is a speed hump / raised area as you turn into our road. No thump when turning on the flat or when I go over speed humps in a straight line though it does sound / feel like the rear wheels spin a bit as they come off the hump. The van passed MOT at the beginning of Feb with no advisories and I have had a good pull and push at the suspension and exhaust, rocked and jumped up and down in the back and tugged the wheels but can't replicate the noise. Could it be the rear springs are on their way out and it hitting the bump stops?

Re: Metallic thump
Couple of long shots, I had a similar metal clunking when going over speed bumps or rough ground, I changed arb front droplinks and rear rollbar links which can make clunking noises, they were due for change anyway. Still had the noise. Turned out the jack and mechanism that raises the jack up were jumping around in there compartment under the sliding door. I secure them and the noises stopped. like I say long shot, but by the sherlock method of elimination might help.. Good luck

Re: Metallic thump
Hi
1/.Worn droplinks
2/. A/ rollbar bushes
3/. A/rollbar bush brackets broken (not always visible until removal)
4/. Hitting bump-stop
5/. Rear door moving on latching mechanism - adjust
Once you've checked that lot out, report back
...there are more possibilities afore ye think springs!
Cheers

In the beginning there was nothing , then God said "Let there be Light".....There was still nothing , but ,by crikey, you could see it better.

Other parts worth checking.
Panhard rod..
Upper Horizontal links..
Lower Suspension arm..
When checking these types of components it usually better done with a lever, and the weight on or off the suspension whatever is relevant.
Good Luck.

Re: Metallic thump
Ok - reporting back - I have identified the offending item as the rear O/S anti roll bar bracket. It has completely snapped.

Easy repair if I can get the holding nuts undone!!
Don't recall what I drove over to cause it so snap and bend right back though.

Re: Metallic thump
Hi
Take my tip (and others)...take it to a garage, as the rear ones are often stuck tight!...first get a quote, and then let 'em tackle it
....As for feeling it snap, I doubt you'd notice. On my Type 2 , I snapped the rollbar...only noticed a banging on the front!...I replaced it with an absolutely massive diameter one , and put one on the back...plus urethane bushes.....
Cheers
