Coolant Alarm -Access To Cigarette Lighter Feed Advice

Post by Bluespanner » Mon Mar 18, 2013 8:45 am

Morning men!... I'm half way through fitting a coolant alarm on my Bongo. I'd like to run a feed off the rear of the cigarette lighter socket.

I have taken a couple of the plastic panels off on the lower dash, I can feel the back of the lighter socket but access is difficult. I've read a few of the posts here and had a feel around to see if it will shift, but its having none of it. It feels like theres 2 connectors on the rear of the lighter socket with 2 wires coming off. Is it possible to tap into one of these wires further away from the socket were I might be able to get a visual on it? and if so, which is the positive ? I want to avoid tapping into the fusebox if at all possible.

I dont have a lesuire battery but do have an alarm and immobiliser.

many thanks

The cigarette lighter levers out the dash it's pretty tight but it does come, you can then see the spade connections, mine did not come forwards much as the wires were so short. I removed my cigarette lighter to do exactly the same, the wires were so short I struggled hold on to the 2 wires thru the dash, I was worried if I cut the positive I would lose it forever behind the dash, I picked up a feed from the ignition switch instead, I was advised by someone on the forum by PM, I must have deleted it so sorry can't give you any more details. I'm sure someone will post where best to get a feed. Your wires may be longer than mine so this may not be as much of problem.

The wires at the back of the ciggy socket are attached to the socket by a plug.....Just pull it off......
The back of the fuse box is also very easy....Go for the green/yellow wire(drivers side blinds) if you go that route.

You can get a little plug in double fuseholder that adds an extra way to the fusebox by plugging it into an existing fuse way and then it gives you the existing way plus 1. car radio fitting places carry them.

Something like this:

It's all too easy to blow the cigaratte lighter fuse when plugging something like a sat nav in which would leave the LCA unpowered. Personally, I fitted the LED in the instrument panel, so took the power from the back of the speedo as can be seen in the bottom left of this picture:
