The rear air con/heater doesn't work.

Post by Risoundz » Fri Mar 08, 2013 6:21 pm

Hello

I have a lovely 99 V6
The rear air con/heater doesn't work.
The lights are on at the front as well but no air blowing with fan or air con.
I checked the fuses all good, swap them around (30A) nothing changed.

Can anyone help me with what can be wrong?

thanks

i think im right in saying the back only works if the front fan is on, have you done this.

got the old manual one myself, but presume the digital is similar in operation.

The Air Con can only be turned on from the front, but the Fans should be controllable from the rear, once turned on from the front. I seem to recall a couple of people having to replace relays in the past. Worth a search on the forum, if no one shouts in the next few hours.

Its just behind the drivers seat on the offside;
http://lushprojects.com/bongopartsmk2/c ... mgno=.html
see this thread for photo's of unit http://www.igmaynard.co.uk/bongo/forum/ ... 62#p570162
the relay (black, rectangular with writing on it) is just right of centre, on a bracket screwed to the case with a white plug and black cable loom leading off to the right. If you have the electronic version of the controls there will be two relays; G3-20 (Fans on/off) and an additional one G3-18 which is used to turn the fan on for Max blow.
The thread also includes a description of how to get to the unit. Normally easier if you haven't got a conversion !

I have a digital one.
I can see it on the picture.
Can I get to it by removing the Air-con control unit or I need to remove all the plastics from that side of the van?

I have a rear conversion, everything original on that part of the van :D
I hope is easy to get into it.
I never removed anything from it.

Thank you so much for helping

You can remove the side panel in under 5 minutes. Undo the screw in the grey trim by the controls and remove. Undo 2 screws holding controls to metal frame, remove unit and undo connector. Slide drivers seat forward and tip the seat back towards front of van. Gently pull the trim away starting at the top in the middle. It will pull off but watch out for the metal clips that tend to ping off. Once it's about 6 inches away from the body, look down the top and you will see the cable that goes to the green light and this is taped to a plastic clip. Slice thru tape with a knife and remove bulb from holder by turning it 90 degrees. You'll need to do some jiggling to get the panel out, but it's pretty straight forward.

Refitting is the same in reverse, but remember to check the seat belt is not caught up behind panel.

Woah, hold on with the ordering new bits.!!?? 8)

Don't you hold one of the fan buttons down on the front heater control a little longer to get the rear fan to go???

I don't know mines manual, but on the whole a similar principle.
Cheaper by comparison to a race horse...

You can check it at first by simply swapping the two relays around, if you then get the fans working at all but Max speed it points to the G3-20 relay being faulty, but its worth popping the case off and having a look it might just need the contacts being cleaned!
