Fuel pump seals replacement

Post by lazyb5 » Sat Mar 02, 2013 12:59 pm

Just finished replacing the seals...successfully. A great big thank you to whoever created the fact sheet in the members area. A couple of things that helped me that weren't in the fact sheet.
If you loosen the solenoid plate the double fuel pipe will swing towards the engine and help get your hand round the back of the pump. As the fact sheet says loosen front cover first, i left mine hanging from the bolts, it also releases the spring pressure. At the back of the pump work on the bolt furthest away ie closest to front of car first as the other bolt obstructs your hand. Have a magnetic pick thingy, the thing like an aerial that has a mag at the end mine also has a light it allows you to undo bolts and just catch them. Grease your right wrist, back of your hand and base of your thumb to help your hand slide between pump and air intake, I used vaseline  . Use your mirror to check you have the rear seal in correctly. When replacing rear plate put furthest bolt through the plate and lower in from the top using your magnet. Use your right hand behind the pump to guide into position, this is really difficult I tried about 5 times before I managed. Once the back is done have a cuppa you've earns it.

You were lucky if just the side seals were leaking.
I removed the pump and had all of mine replaced at a local Bosch dealer..

Looks like I was lucky then, I've always got the rest of the kit in case anything else leaks

Hi M8ONGO there's always something to do, can you drop the name and address of the guy for the arches ,they will need doing shortly. After that I'm just going to enjoy driving the bloody thing

Side seals not a headache.....the rear manifold is a different ball game.
