12V Vitrifrigo fridge question?

Post by Gixermark » Sat Feb 02, 2013 9:43 pm

Hi All

Anyone help with the controls of our fridge please?

It's a 12/24V Vitrifrigo fridge, model C 42 L PF. I am unable to find anything re what the controls etc do, even having trawled the internet! This is the model which has all the compressor etc outside the fridge. I have just turned the fridge upto ( what I assume is! ) the highest setting, left it an hour and the freezer is already showing -14 so I think it's working.

In the photo below you will see the control knob which turns from the off to the 11'o clock position with 5 further positions inbetween. Can anyone enlighten me to what they mean/do please in an clockwise direction? When I go to the A, A1 and the highest position the fan kicks in on the external compressor unit, although I have just checked again an hour later and it appears to have switched off.

Thanks in advance :D

Isn't that just the knob to set the temperature :?

Er ... correct! As said above,I want to know what the A, A1 etc are for and why the fan comes on when choosing the 'A' etc?

Ours is marked similarly but as far as we can see its just temperature, we normally have ours set at between A and A1.

As with a domestic fridge, the compressor and fan will only switch on when it needs to maintain the required temperature. It sounds like it's working just fine :).

I setup a mates vitrifrigo with the same markings. Ignore them, just set the dial so you get the temperature you want. The fan is automatic.

Thanks all, we set the fridge to 'high' and it was ice cold this morning so it deffo works. Turned it back to the 3rd setting and checked this evening and whilst cold, the freezer box isn't frozen. As we know it works ok I assume anything past the 'A' setting is cold/very cold & before the 'A' is just fridge.

Was worried re the fan but as mentioned it appears to switch on/off at random.

The freezer element is what makes the fridge cold, so the freezer is "always on" - if you put a tray of ice cubes in there at even quite a low setting you will find it stays frozen.

The fan comes on when the heat exchanger at the back gets up to a certain temperature.

I've got the same fridge, though I think I have A1 and A2 where you have A and A1. IIRC (don't have the manual to hand), you turn it up to the maximum setting when you first switch it on, to get it to temperature. Then when it's nice and cold you turn it down to A1 or A depending on the ambient temp - if it's cooler outside you can get away with A, but in warmer weather we usually use A1 as this means the ice box gets cold enough to keep ice frozen (it melts a bit on a lower setting).

If you don't want to use the freezer section for storing food, you can put an ice block in (the type you freeze for a picnic cool box) while it's getting cold, then it helps keep the fridge cooler afterwards - helps save power on your LB if you're not on hookup.
