bulb replacement of heater unit in dashboard

Post by junior » Wed Jan 23, 2013 2:49 pm

i have a 96 4wd bongo and just recently noticed that the heater unit in the dash doesnt light up at night even when you have the driving lights on. the dial that you turn for the fan speed settings i.e 1,2,3,4 with the little light does light up and also when you press the aircon button that lights up but the levers that move so you can put the heating to just your feet or window etc dont light up. its not a digital one. i supposing that it is supposed to light up.
Any help is greatly appreciated thanks

most probably right but how do you get the unit out to replace the bulb? tryed removing it with some old radio keys down each side and it will come so far but not enough to get it out. is there something that needs disconnecting before it comes completly out?

Hi
There's a heater control cable under the bonnet, and if you look in the footwells at the side of the heater, there's a cable to disconnect. Then, you can poke an old radio tool (I used some bent coat-hanger) into the holes either side on the dash where the removal tools fit.
Easy job!
Cheers

I would agree with Helen... But, the way i did it was un clip the two cables either side of the footwells flap controls, then release & draw forward the radio (if fitted in or occupying the bottom din) to allow a little slack on the third recirculation cable that leads through the firewall/bulkhead under the bonnet without having to disconnect it...??
With the heater control pulled out as far as it will go, there are three bulb holders fromm the loom.. One centre below the bottom slider, one on the left midway up & one behind the fan switch where the numbers are... An on bulb for the AC is in the actual switch.... http://lushprojects.com/bongopartsmk2/c ... mgno=.html

...In fairness i have a plasma dial heater control faceplate with just a single led behind the fan speed switch...

Seen here using window tint to cover/smoke the whiteness of it...

Don't get me started on changing the bulb for the hazard switch....

I take it you got the bulbs sorted then...?!! 8)

I have found some of the "capless" wedge fit leds push in ends can be a fraction thicker than the original filament bulbs, which if yer not careful can distort the contacts in the twist fit bulb holder on the end of the dashlight loom.. If the contacts in the holder "shorts" this can blow the fuse knocking out your side & tail lights too....

Rule of thumb, if all the dash lights go? So have your "markers".
