Quick air con question.

Post by Gixermark » Wed Jan 09, 2013 1:27 pm

Hi all

Quick question if I may re aircon :

Went to look at a Bongo & the digital aircon didnt appear to work although all digi display / air blew out as it should.Didnt here the distinctive 'click' as the compressor came in.
Seller phoned me later to say he had it checked, cleaned out & re gassed & works fine. He was told if the system falls below a certain pressure the air con will not kick in ( hence no compressor noise! ) & when they hooked up there was still pressurised gasses in the system just that they were below the required working pressure.
Does that make sense to you guys and is this true?
No reason for me to feel the seller is making this up ( actually seems a very nice chap! ) but wanted your expert opinion please!
Thanks
Mark

It is correct that the compressor will not engage when pressure is low, however if it's only recently had an aircon service then there could be a leak somewhere. I believe it is requirement now for system to be pressure tested before a re-gas so all the new refrigerant doesn't escape.

Hiya Simon

Thanks for the reply. It hadn't had the re-gas / aircon service when the problem showed, the re-gas was carried out after and the problem went so together with you confirming the compressor not engaging it appears alls well!

Can't wait to pick "Billy" our new Bongo up this coming Saturday!

Cheers
