Interior Panel Removal

Post by Titan1995 » Fri Jan 04, 2013 11:52 am

I am about to strip out the interior panels on my Bongo to facilitate running extra cables etc.

As with all things plastic, I am sure that they are easy to damage while removing.

Any tips regarding specific areas and clip removal that sort of thing.

Some of the metal clips will ping off - just keep them somewhere safe - easy to lose them down a small gap. You may well also find that one or two of the plastic posts that the clips clip onto break - not a lot you can do about this but there are so many in the bongo panels that it rarely matters. It really depends on how many times the panels have been off before and how brutal the previous people were.

They all ping off fairly readily with a gentle pull. Each bit of trim comes off in sequence where one overlaps the next, so for the side panels, I think you start from the front & work backwards.

Hi
The secret is NOT to remove the panels outside at this time of year, and only to do this task in a garage heated to summer temperatures, as the plastic trim is brittle when cold, and the mouldings that the spring clips attach to WILL break off in low temperatures. One job to save for a sunny day!
Cheers

I have just removed my side panels for the first time with some trepidation even though many on this forum says its dead easy.
For rear panel remove seat belt bottom retaining nut (17mm socket)
Remove 2 screws holding rear panel and gently prise up, there a 2 lugs on mine that were already broken
I started from the right rear and gently pull from bottom out toward the centre (away from wall) moving fingers up and then applying upwards motion as well. I did use any tools to prise just fingers.
with a bit of luck we have some pickys (also my first attempt)
the mid right also needs to be loosened in order to totally remove the rear.
Don't forget the blind switch, push out from the inside to get easy acces to remove wiring plug

Thanks all.

Sadly, I cannot wait until a sunny day. Need the wheel arches sorted asap.
