Charcoal west Fife

Post by petenbex » Sat Dec 22, 2012 12:31 pm

Hi guys.A bit of a long shot. I'm supposed to be BBQing christmas dinner this year but I went to the shed only to discover the charcoal I thought I had wasn't there.... I forgot that I used it when we went away in October

Does any one know where I can get some at this time of year in west Fife?
I've tried Dobbies, Homebase, B and M and Asda and they all have house coal and dried logs but I'm worried these may have chemicals that would be harmful to cook on???

Any suggestions would be most welcome
Cheers

Hi Pete, that is a nice name, if you can make it to East Fife I have a couple of bags of briquettes in the garage. Just follow the A91 to Cupar.

That's a really kind offer but alas Cupar is just a little far. I definitely would if I had the time to go to the deer farm with the kids. Cheers.

Have you tried your local country stores? The country stores in the Scottish Borders sell a bit of everything although the mostly cater for farm and riding stables gear, pet and animal foods. You never know they may have some stored away in a back room somewhere.

Thanks for the tips guys. Our local country store is Kinross and our local Lidl is Livingstone. Both a little out of the way. I am heading over to Edinburgh to visit my grandad tomorrow so it looks like we will try go outdoors.

No just Aldi. Glenrothes Boness and Wester Hailes look like the closest ones.

I never buy charcoal now, just get a couple of the heaviest built pallets you can find, smash them up, pile them high on your BBQ (easy as mine is half an oil drum) and set light to it.

You'll soon end up with a pile of smouldering wood as good as any charcoal. A few good dry logs on the top will ensure it lasts long enough.

For what it's worth, Go Outdoors in Coatbridge had loads of charcoal on the shelves today.

Well I got plenty of charcoal from Go-Outdoors and managed to cook everyones steaks to perfection, except the two Mothers who's steaks I mixed up

Cooking outside was a stroke of genius if I do say so myself as it meant being able to have a few ciders while 'stoking' the BBQ and getting out of the madness that Christmas always brings.

Some one brought a bag of Brussel Sprouts as they were worried we weren't being traditional enough (whats not traditional about steak and chips) so Bex knocked up some awesome coleslaw.

Anyway Peace and good tidings and all that and a Happy New Year!!!!
