Just been pressure tested and I need a new cylinder head for 95 Bongo friendee 2.5 diesel turbo. Damn it!!!!
Does anyone know a reliable supplier and approximately how much they are.
Ive been on ebay but they range from £250.00 - £400.00. Whats the difference?
Any help would be welcome.
Thanks

Re: Cylinder Head
Assume by pressure test you mean they took the head off to test it? Or did they do a pressure test of the whole system?

Re: Cylinder Head

do you need a second opinion and maybe some further tests before-----------------. or has a garage got it etc.
im only down the road if you need.

Re: Cylinder Head
Is that the same northern bongalow that saved my nissan sunny fan motor???
By the way it still runs fine.........touch wood!!
Yes our mechanic has the beast
and he is pricing up the supply and installation.
I was just wondering where to try for a check quote on the supply.
He did a pressure test of the whole system. Ive been having problems with rough start up's and white smoke along with fluctuating heater temperatures after warm up. Not overheated yet though but he says its only a matter of time.
I assume its going to be a costly job.
Never mind. Its worth it in the end.

Re: Cylinder Head
A failed pressure test on the whole system (ie pump it up via the header tank to X psi and see if it leaks) doesn't mean that the head has gone. Fluctuating heat from the heater(s) may mean air in the system. It could be a hose joint or water pump gasket is leaking coolant and sucking in air when it cools and pulls a negative pressure in the system. Lumpy start could be glow plugs. Could white smoke be unburnt fuel as a result of glowplugs failing?
Are you loosing coolant? If so, how much?
Just thinking that new glow plugs a bit of investigation and a bleed could be all it needs... unless there are other symptoms that point to it being the head. Does your man know Bongos well?
Typically £1-2k for a head job, some source reconditioned engines for the same price.

Re: Cylinder Head
matt has said it all really.
unless he has firm evidence its deffo the head, which can be hard to establish with a bongo, it may be something really simple and cheap. if your mechanic is up for it i could come over and have a look WITH him as im off work tomorrow, or at least have a chat and a brew with him.
i have all my own test stuff that wont take long, but some garages dont like outsiders affecting the profit margins
.
if you need somewhere good to buy a head and kit ian at bongo fury may be a good place to start as he has the assembled knowledge of the forum and private info to draw from. phone him or email.
pm me if you need.
