I have had the van since March but do not go out in it much at night. Last night I noticed that with the main beam warning light on I am getting a good light near the van. With it off I am getting a flat beam in the distance. I have not done anything to the lights and can only assume that it passed the MOT, a few days before I bought the van, like that.
Both lights are the same. Is there a common point, possibly Relay or steering column, where wires could have got crossed over?

both the relay and the switch can give problems, but i would go first for the plugs at the rear of the bulbs (they melt and short out) or even the bulbs themselves.

Hi peterrc,
It might be worthwhile checking the wiring on the bulb sockets, the sockets(connector)might have been replaced and they have got the wiring round the wrong way.

...also take the bulbs out & check they're not been fitted into the reflector up side down which will mess up the beam pattern. There is a lug on the side of the bulb to prevent this happening, but I'm sure given suitable time & effort, someone could fit them in the wrong way round.
