Double DIN
Hi All, I thought I'd treat 'Our Bren' to something like this. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/XTRONS-TD714G ... 232356ef77
She already has a basic Extrons DVD player which can also 'forward' DVD movies to her rear drop down screen but we really need Bluetooth for our mobiles, and also the GPS - and ideally the ability to receive Long wave radio stations.
The original Mazda radio/tape player is still filling the lower part of the double DIN hole and I've heard a few horror stories of folk trying to get this part out.
So, has anyone had any experience of fitting a modern double DIN unit in their Bongo?
Cheers Pete

This could be be what I'm after. Were there any issues removing the old kit and was it just a case of swapping the leads over? How good is the TV reception and would I need a 12v free view gadget?Colin H F wrote:Hi dont know if you have noticed but it has only got analogue TV which is of no use here you need DIGITAL like mine see my posts plus its from Japan so you will encounter import and customs costs check it out first

Re: Double DIN
Hi on my Ford Freda there was a metal bracket tack welded to the big round bar that is at the back of the din hole, on investigation I found it was a stiffener for the fascia molding [2 Philips screws] this bar was not on my previous Bongo so I removed it just in case I needed a bit more depth turns out I didn't need it anyway, I bought an ISO adapter off the auction site on the web just a couple of quid and it fitted perfectly. as for the DTV works perfectly with the little aerial supplied but as you know reception varies from place to place and weather conditions can effect digital signals, it has a removable screen and the clever bit is when it is removed the radio still plays the last station you were tuned into.but all in all I am well pleased

Re: Double DIN
I never thought of cutting that bit off. i just drilled a bigger hole in it so I could add in another cable. I have a seperate freeview box located in the glovebox - it's one of the ebay 12v specials (that can even record to USB when you're "out") but mine seems to only get the BBC channels. I do need to have a closer look at it sometime.

Re: Double DIN
I had an xtrons td717 back in february - it went back several times for repair and I had to pay courier costs each time apart from once when the seller (apparently xtrons agent under an eBay user name) begrudgingly collected at at their own cost when I got shirty. Eventually they agreed I could return it but withheld £20 due to wear and tear - as they expected 6 months down the line having had virtually no use from the equipment I just wanted rid and any money back seemed a result even though with costs I was £60 down. I now have a rock solid dependable kenwood - it's a shame I can't say that about my bongo engine
Suggest You google xtrons reviews, problems etc and see the results...i wish I had
