Coolant Alarm Bleep

started Bongo this morning and the coolant alarm bleeped as per usual but then didnt stop bleeping
It was very cold and had to get son to station so I lowered the setting as I am sure coolant level ok
Drove to station about 2 miles and back home
then set alarm back to normal Not bleeping
Can this happen when it is very cold?
Im not sure if I have enough anti freeze in yet
Will check later at garage
Any ideas?

Hi,what type of coolant alarm do you have,that you can alter the setting.Are you sure it not the temperature alarm (do you have one)that is triggering..

How did you lower the setting?.Just trying to determine whether you have a Low Coolant Alarm a Temperature Alarm or Both.

Its an older mode; Just turned the dial It like a clock dial but with about 6/7 little lines and is normally set at 4.5

I think you have a MASON alarm (temperature not coolant level) Did you check the coolant level visually just to make sure that you have plenty of coolant.

You cannot adjust a low coolant alarm........what you may have is a low coolant and temp alarm combined.........the low coolant part may beep for longer in very cold weather....adjusting the temp control will have no effect.......just coincidence the alarm stopped when you adjusted it.....can you post a photo of the dial bit ?

I had an intermittent beep on mine a few days ago (only very briefly maybe for a second) but it happened several times, I found one of the screws retaining the wires on the coolant tank was slightly loose, no more problems once tightening the screw up, had me worried for a few days, as I could not understand what was wrong as there was plenty coolant in the tank. I also fitted the TM2 you supplied, great bit of kit.

About every 12 months my lca goes off, and I need to put a little coolant in. Why, I don't know and don't much need to care thanks to the lca

Mine is staying on now too, since I drained the header tank an refilled. Was operating fine before, so not sure what is going on. The tank is overfull if anything.

Any ideas? I'll try tightening the sensor screw tomorrow, but I'm not convinced that is the problem.

What did you fill the tank with.......and why just drain the tank ??

The tank got drained because I've changed the radiator for a new one. Planning to change the 'stat before refilling the system, so I just topped the header tank up with water to stop the alarm going off every time I move the Bongo...... but filling it (with plain water) didn't stop it. Does it need the coolant for the alarm sensor to work?

I'm guessing that the conductivity of water is different (less?) than coolant mix so Yes, it ought to make a difference. Over to Haydn.....

Dosn,t work in water....and water is a bit risky in this weather..........hope you bled it correctly

Worth noting the red longlife OAT (5 year) anti-freeze can also trigger the LCA shortly after it has been filled as it will add a protective coating on the screw that changes the conductivity.

At this time of year it is worth checking the strength / replacing the coolant before it gets too frosty. I've heard of two examples recently of the header tank spliting and this is going to become a lot more likely if ice starts to form and expand in the system. Normal anti-freeze should be changed every two years & if you are still running around with the original Japanese stuff (or there is no evidence of it being changed), then it should be drained, flushed & replaced as a priority.
