Roof vent update

Vent in place and working, airflow is not huge but air does move up vent. Sod's law came into force when we had 2 cloudy and overcast days until today when the fan started to do it's work. It was never designed to cool the vehicle but just to vent the very, very, hot air in the closed roof space and opening one of the side windows helps the flow. We are due to have some extended time camping shortly so will get a better idea on how it works. Still think I will probably remove the sunroof and fit a caravan type lifting window, but that will wait until after our break. Photos of the result at the below url.

Hi Jacobus
perhaps a silly thought, but what about blanking off one of the rear side windows, and slotting a fixed vent in when you camp in hot climates, and putting the original one back in England?....it may work well in conjunction with the fan unit.

Hi helen, I had looked at a different version of your idea, replace window with metal and fit a fan in it to act as a cooling fan. The rear nearside window does not open and is also partly covered by a cupboard. But as I said above the idea of the vent fan is just to move the hot air out of the top region when the trap is shut. SHE who must be obeyed still fancies the top opener. Thanks for the input I like the idea of folks putting their pennyworth in as it seems to stimulate other ideas as I am sure you are aware. These sort of things are sometimes used on boats, they don't move huge amounts of air but they do help as they trickle all the time the sky is bright. Very simple & easy to fit. See: Solar vent

I like Helens tailgate security barrier and flynet idea best (or else the tailgate locking bar idea and flynet). Seems a shame to start cutting up an AFT unless really worth it.

I saw one of these on a Green Bongo at the weekend. Looked very tidy. Want one.

Would that allow the use of a gas fridge with a low level vent somewhere, or is it just meant for cooking?

Just for extracting steam / fumes from cooking. Gas fridge will require proper external ventilation, as well as 'drop out' hole for any leaking gas to safely exit through the floor.

Thanks, I thought so. I'll stick to putting the fridge in the awning or under a tree for the odd occasions when there is no power.
