Climate control - no heat

Post by Lincsbongo » Tue Oct 23, 2012 6:18 pm

Hi all,new owner, just getting familiar with the Bongo and had a few jobs done.
Current problem is no heat from air con/climate control, its the digital type.Fan works at all three speeds, coolant isn't overheating but even setting at 32 deg and on a decent run, only cold air from front heater.
Local garage I've used think its the heater motor but I'm not so sure, any ideas please?

Check that the actuator and linkage is present and working. If you look in the drivers footwell there is a bug white plastic cam on the air duct. When you switch through the various modes you should see it moving. The rod sometimes gets displaced or even lost. There are some pictires somewhere that I and others have posted.

Thanks tribal,I did see pics somewhere on forum, could have been yours. The long linkage had disengaged frm the cam device ,put it back in but after a couple of cycles through the modes it drops out, guess there must be a circling or similar missing.
Unfortunately, since I posted, the temperature gauge is now going to high which means overheating now too!

Oops that sounds more serious. I think there is a little plastic tab on the cam that holds it in place which may have broken off, but I just lashed mine loosely with some thin steel wire and it does the same thing.

Couldn't help myself.... Sorry! The temperature control flap actuator & mechanical control is on the passenger side.. The drivers side mechanism controls the air direction through the various ducting to the vents... http://lushprojects.com/bongopartsmk2/c ... mgno=.html

Could be an airlock in the front heater matrix....?
Cheaper by comparison to a race horse...

I know what the actuator does, I wasn't clear whether he meant no heat or a cold blast. He did find it detached as it happened so it was worth checking. I guess I didn't read the question carefully enough. It wasn't phrased as an overheating issue at that stage I assumed it hgad been the same ever since he had the car.

Guys, thanks, would seem like overheating solved but still no hot air from front heater, tried bleeding system,no change. Checked linkages in driver and passenger side, both disconnected. Driver one won't stay in place in cam location, think the wire solution needs to be applied. Passenger side one,I assume is for the heating control, it's attached at the actuator but can't see where it fits on the other end, any photos available similar the driver side ones ?thanks

Steve, many thanks for the photo,it answers a question why I couldn't see where the bottom end of the link fitted! The bottom white arm is missing, not sure if its a screw that holds it on but certainly looks like something is sheared off in the mounting. More repairs then.
Do you think this is the cause of only cold air fron air con?

Try the Lush projects its 61-A20 and the sub assembly http://lushprojects.com/bongopartsmk2/c ... no=.html#7
pretty certain that side, passenger, controls the heat flow, the drivers side "Mode" controls direction.

Driver's side is definitely Mode and the screen button takes it a click further.

Guys, thanks for the info so far. I am having trouble identifying on the blown up drawing on lush projects, which is the bottom white link pivot arm shown on the photo above supplied by Steve. The photo shows the arm pivoting at one end and the connecting rod from the heater actuator at the other end. On the blown up drawing, the pivot arm seems to be pivoted in the middle? Help please.

There seems to be a couple of variations, which year is you vehicle or better still go to the root of the Lushprojects http://lushprojects.com/bongopartsmk2/ and choose the year / version the particular page is under Body and Interior and is then under Heater Components. I notice that some years don't have page x of y so you may need to click on several pages to find the right one. The diagram numbers are clickable and will open up the table with the descriptions and part numbers if you need to order anything as well.

Thanks Geoff, your route does take me back to previous links to the page for heater componentson drawing 61 130 and.applying some common sense, link set, temp, would seem to be the obvious parts I would need but, even the drawing isn't an engineering drawing, just a blown up,the parts bear no resemblance to what is on the photo and I don't want to order the wrong parts and have to try and change them for correct parts with associated cost.I have used these drawigns already to order a couple of other paarts and had now problem interpreting them at all so it confuses me what i'm missing here.
Additionally,i'm trying to understand how this system works so my assumption that the linkage being detached is the probable cause of no heat through the air con system,I have checked the two pipes behind the plastic cover on the passenger side that feed and return from the heater matrix so there is flow through there.
Again,if anyone looks at the darwing and the photo supplied earlier and try and make sense of wwhat I need,I would be most grateful. What you have explained makes sense Geoff but the drawing doesn't appear to be clear.
