Full lock

Post by germag » Sun Oct 21, 2012 5:24 pm

Dont know if i imagine this but my Bongo seems to hold back or seem as if the brake is being applied, when on full lock pulling out from the kerb from a parking space or doing a u turn.
Is this normal?
It is a diesel four wheel drive manual gearbox.

Any ideas.

Thanks

I have pulled away hard across a T junction to get going and felt the power steering fail for a second or two and I think others have found this too. I don't imagine you're ragging it doing maneuvers and so it may be something else. Worth checking the fluid level (under driver's seat - part 3 in the top picture here), and check no seals are leaking around the steering rack if you can.

I've no idea if worn CV joints would cause a symptom like this, or to what extent the viscous coupling comes into play at full lock.

Have you got extra wide wheels / tyres? Not uncommon on other vehicles for them to rub against the chassis on full lock.

this is normal on 4wdrive when the viscus coupling starts to bite, this is sensing the differential between the front wheels rotating and the back wheels, it thinks its skidding so locks up the vc.

as it should..

mines also a manual gbox 8)
