I have a problem with my V6 automatic gear box. I have a (sometimes) intermittent whine when the Bongo is in Drive , usually from cold and continues when warm. The whine goes away when the automatic transmission is in lockup. The whine is from the gearbox, my local, friendly, mechanic has checked out the gearbox and says the whine coming from a pipe on the gearbox vibrating which might indicate a blockage or blocked filter somewhere. I get a flashing hold light and the gearbox goes into limp mode after about 45 minutes of motorway driving, stopping and turning off the ignition clears the flashing hold light and resets the gearbox to normal mode, and everything returns to normal. Sometimes the fault will re-occur, at other times all is OK, and sometimes no fault occurs at all.
Everything appears to be fine with the gearbox otherwise, it changes smoothly and changes at the correct revs/speed as far as I can tell.
I have run a diagnostic on the gearbox / hold light with the following result:-
2 Long, 7 Short, 1 Long, 1 Short, delay, 1 Long, delay, 2 Long, 7 Short etc. which I interpret as 27, and 11 but those codes don't really correspond to the codes in the fact sheet as it's a 2000 gearbox.
Is there anyone out there with any ideas or is it a trip to a good autobox specialists? Does anyone know of a good autobox specialist in the Bristol/Gloucester area?

Have you checked the ATF level? The fluid should be a clear red colour, if it's brown, smells burned or got bits in then it should be changed. Has the problem just started, or been getting worse over time?
There is a chap on here called Alacrity who is a gearbox expert so try contacting him.

Re: V6 2000(W reg) auto box fault
The gearbox oil was changed when the van was imported 2 years ago and looks OK. The problem has developed over the last 6 months or so, starting with an occasional whine but steadily occurring more often and now displaying the error codes as well.
Thanks for the link to Alacrity, I'll try and get hold of him but I think he is no longer a member?
