Long time since I've messed around with central locking kits, but don't they normally come with metal connectors, a bit like the terminal blocks used for connecting wires together. This type of thing:

Fit one rod into one half and the 2nd one in the other and you can easily adjust the overall length.

While the Bongo lock pull thing is up exposing a short length to attach the connector to where it comes out of of a square hole in the window ledge... I was doing the latter and had a bu**er of a time adjusting the connector to allow for the right amount of travel.
