Hold light flashing - advice appreciated

Hey folks,

Just entered the world of the bongo I have unfortunately got to cut my teeth in the maintenance field though eek (i have no mechanical background). I have one (and probably will have more!) specific question, but I would really appreciate some experience in this matter.

So... the hold light is flashing and i'm going to try to work out the issue myself, having read the appropriate fact sheets. Having read the main factsheet, i have my first question. It seems to differentiate between fast and slow hold light flashing. Mine is flashing ever second journey or so and when it comes on it is about one second intervals, with the light on and off for the same duration. Is this slow flashing?

So i'm going to do the wire technique in the fact sheet.

Also circumstantial evidence - the fuel gauge does not work and there is a scraping noise from a front disc as i brake. I'm presuming these are separate issues to deal with, but i thought i might as well mention them.

p.s. edit to say, i don't appear to have any problems with the gearbox when driving, no high revving or loss of power...

Hi, I can't answer most of your questions except to say the fuel gauge normally can be fixed by attaching a wire from underneath the fuel tank to the chassis. I have done this with good results. Dave

Better get those front wheels off ASAP and check condition of pads and disks. Rears also in case not done for yonks. And have you checked level, colour, smell of ATF fluid?

Took this for reference when I had the problem. mine turned out to be the throttle potentiometer. There is also a video on You tube of my holdlight displaying the fault code. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=13Xa11_tLtM

Thanks, watched your video. Am i thinking it came back with error 62? Six quick flashes then two quick flashes with slow ones in between to denote the next number? Factsheet says overrunning clutch solenoid?!?

Ok so I'm getting six quick flashes thena three second gap then one slow one then another six quick straight after. There is a gap This sequence then repeats. I can't figure out what code this is. Aaa argh help!

According to the fact sheet that is the output speed sensor.

With regards to mine, it is 62 in the video, I can only guess that a faulty TPS could make the clutch solenoid appear faulty to the ECU. Other than that ADS have got mixed up as to what part they fitted which is highly unlikely.

Based on my experience though the fault code is a guide rather than a definitive diagnosis. trouble is that the average home mechanic doesn't have a big pile of spare parts to swap out in a process of elimination.

Beat me tuit. Yes try a PM to him. And Yes, atf is transmission fluid. Have a search for guidance on how to test/check it. And do you know, I can't remember which side the dipstick is on. Well worth changing it and cleaning the filter if in any doubt about its age and condition. Keep us posted.

I had both these faults and no background either. I used the fault diagnosis showed up tps turned a screw (roundish thing middle right under driver seat) gave it a wiggle (observe position first) and all was ok, no reocurrance after a year.

also fuel sender unit has bad earth (common prob) why not treat the floor for any rust, and seal it also while you are there

good luck but do check the diagnostics tho and consider all option - the tps would be a good quick trial tho as it's a 2 min job
