Boot lid tail light - how to replace

Post by tom_w21 » Tue Oct 09, 2012 10:02 pm

May be a rather silly question but not had to do it yet and thought I would check before attempting it but...

How do I change the tail light on my bongo, the one in the cluster on the boot lid (post 99 model)?

I'm guessing removing the interior trim panel?

No probs - let us know how you get on :D. Not many of us have had tail light bulbs fail in these later style light clusters, so it's a bit of a learning curve all round.

Hi.
Done this myself only a couple of weeks ago,its fairly easy really, you just have to be carefull but firm.
Working inside the van..........(i can`t easily reach the tailgate when open to work on it!!!!)
Remove the 4 plastic clips on the top and bottom of the rear trim panel,
Remove the tailgate pull handle and screw,
Carefully but firmly "pull" the panel, starting at a corner or half way down until the trim clips pop off,on mine they all but 2 popped off the vehicle with no damage to the panel.
Work along the panel carefully, once started you can feel behind to lacate the clips in the centre of it,
Once removed, hopefully in 1 piece, you will come across a plastic sheet attached to the tailgate,
I pulled it away at the corner i was working on,but beware of the black tacky sealant, once on your clothes or hands it is hard to remove!,you could cut the plastic and tape it back up,but the black sealant remains tacky so you can press the plastic back on.
Then it is simply a case of twisting the bulb holder to unlock it,like the front side lights, and replacing it.
Then put it all back together..
I think it took me about 25 mins, taking time not to damage the panel.
Jobs a good `un
