buzzer

Post by germag » Tue Oct 09, 2012 1:47 pm

Just picked up a Bongo and no electric mirror or ciggy socket working.
Fuse no 8 blown, replaced fuse and all ok except i have a continuous buzzer going off under the dashboard.
Pulled no 8 fuse and the buzzer stopped and so have the mirrors and ciggy socket.

Anyone have any idea what is making the buzzing sound?

Thanks in advance.

Fuse no 8 by the sound of it, hence why someone removed it ha ha. But seriously, the Bongo has many beeps but no buzzers, as far as i'm aware. So I guess it must be something non-standard. Can you find the buzzer and identify relevant wiring. Geoff (g8dh or summat like that) is our resident wiring guru and may have a thought on this.

What is the pattern of sound the buzzer makes?

Is it coming from the driver's side just to the right of the accelerator?

Is there a low coolant alarm fitted?

Thanks for a guick reply.
The sound is a continuous beep coming from under the left side of dashboard.
I think there is a low coolant alarm fitted as there is a single red wire on water bottle between high and low level
There is no sign of a warning light on the dashboard anywhere.

Hope this helps.

Remove the glove box. There is a 2 inch rubber bung up under towards the left that leads through to the front, just behind the coolant header tank. If there is a wire coming through that grommet, then try tracing it.

Please bear with but it looks like spaghetti in there.

Red wire from expansion tank comes through bulkhead and is connected to a rocker switch o n the dashboard.

Second yellow wire from switch on dash goes to a black box behind glove box.

Two smaller gauge wires red and black come out of black box and are scotchlocked
To larger gauge red and black respectively .

That's as far as I,ve got

Does that make any sense to anyone.

Sorry forgot to say that by flicking the rocker switch the noise stops.

Strange if it is the low coolant alarm, to why anyone would fit a switch in the circuit to turn it off ..!!

Sounds a non-standard addition, and it isn't the "normal" i.e. Haydn's - type of Low Coolant Alarm either!
There have been some very basic Low Coolant Alarms marketed that are just a Buzzer fed by a transistor- sometimes with an LED, and use a couple of screw in probes on the tank. It sounds as if it might be one of them which someone has put a switch in to disable it ... I can guess why!

Yes I think your right inside the black box is a small buzzer and a circuit board.

Can anyone tell me where I can buy the real thing.

Thanks to all. =D> =D> :D

Have you checked your coolant level when cold?

Dip it with a lolly stick or coffee stirrer, you should have a couple of centimeters in there.

When picked up the bingo this morning there was about an inch of coolant measured of a stick.
Does that sound right.
