I have a "N" reg and first need to remove the center grill (Phillips screw and a couple of clips), then remove the indicator (Phillips screw) and pull towards you, leaving your headlamp (4 X bolts ( 10mm Socket required)), pull towards you. You should now have the headlamp in your hands or on the floor in bits in which case you will not need to worry about the lamp inside.

etihsbog, can you run that by me again,
as I experimented with the nearside lamp first,
sure enough loads of broken glass now on the drive.
I then tried it again on the offside one so I now have
a] matching piles of glass
&
b] matching gaps in my front grille

Why have you got gaps in your front grille, does yours extend to surround your headlights and indicators? Now you dont need to replace the lamps you can just buy complete units with the lamps pre-installed, but this time keep a tighter hold on to the headlight unit.

dont need to remove headlamp!!!open bonnet, look at rear of headlamp three wires going into plastic plug press sides of plug and pull away from headlamp, then pull off black rubber cover bulb now visable, there is a metal clip that is sprung loaded push towards front and move sideways,(sorry cant remember if left or right) clip will now swing down and you should be able to remove bulb, reverse order to refit,5 minuets max to do!
