side lights not working
Hi All,
My front & rear side lights & dash light on my Ford Freda 2.5 V6 auto are not working. I have had someone look at it and they have checked all the fuses and all the wiring and this all seems good. After some lengthy research I did manage to find that the furthest back relay switch is the one that works these lights. I'm hoping this may be the problem but I have searched online for a replacement but cannot find an exact match to this below:
H270 Dc12V20A
N.O
Imasen
9c - 01
Can anyone advise on where I can buy this switch or indeed advise if this is the likely cause of these lights not working.
Any help gratefully appreciated, going off to Cornwall at the end of the month so having lights would be helpful.....
Thanks
Becks

Re: side lights not working
Well it might be best to check the actual fuse yourself its this one under the bonnet;

The relay is one of a possible 4 that can be fitted on the nearside under the wing, you can check if its working by simply putting your hand on the relay cover and getting someone to turn the switch on/off you should be able to feel a little bit of vibration and a click if its operating OK the relay is positioned below and is marked E1-05;

NOT ALL the relays need be fitted, but you should be able to see the clips they fit on, the one furthest from you is the Head light switch so you can check that that is operating and then you will be able to tell if the other one is OK or not.

Re: side lights not working
Hi,
first time I've asked for advise on here so thanks for the quick response.
We did check the relay switch and regards the main headlight you could hear it click when we turned the lights to full but the side light relay switch did nothing.
Called Ford also but that wasn't successful.
I shall go check all again tomorrow as per below though just in case.
Thanks

Re: side lights not working
If you want to replace the relay try Ebay search for the first line of the specification, or try a breaker in your area. It helps if you can indicate where roughly you are in the country in the User Control Panel here http://www.igmaynard.co.uk/bongo/forum/ucp.php?i=164

Re: side lights not working
Get a scruntched up peice of cloth and hold it under the light switch, dribble some WD40 into the little gap between the light switch and the rest of the stalk, now turn the lights on and off quickly 10 to 20 times and see if this sorts the problem, the brass contacts in the switch get dirty / oxidised and don't make the connection the wd40 will clean the contacts as you flick the switch back and forth.

Re: side lights not working
Hi,
We've been out and checked all the fuses as per the diagram and they all look good.
I have also realised that the fog lights don't work so the only lights I have are when they are on full.
It must be this far relay switch which is the problem. the one marked E1-04 on the diagram. I had put the reference model code into ebay and google to search for a replacement but cannot find an exact match as yet but will keep searching. I will also search for a local bongo man.
I haven't tried the WD40 yet but will at the weekend.
thanks Becks

Re: side lights not working
Don't get to worried about the other codes on the relay they are normally not relevant, the critical bit is the;
H270 - the type and pinout.
the rest
DC12v20A - 12 Volt operation and contacts rated at 20 Amps
N.O - Normally Open, standard arrangement.
Imasen - Manufacturer
9c-01 - not certain most likely date code of manufacture.
I would certainly checkout the stalk switch before replacing the relay, also have a check of the other relays, there is a very good chance that you will find a suitable one used elsewhere on the vehicle which can be temporarily tried out to make certain that if the switch is working OK, then it is the relay at fault.

Re: side lights not working
Hello,
I had now checked all fuses again, wd40'd the switch and still nothing. I did manage to locate a relay switch with the correct reference number on ebay & it looks the same as mine so I called the guy and it did come from a mazda but not a bongo.
Anyway for £8 delivered I'm willing to take the chance & give it a go.
Will update as to the success once it has arrived & I've fitted....
Thanks to all.

Re: side lights not working
My money is on the switch, i used to go to a lot of 1990's Fords with this problem when i was roadsiding did you pull the stalk down to righthand indicator on position to get the wd40 to penetrate ? the fog light won't work as it's powered from the sidelight curcuit.
Re: side lights not working
Hooray,
Relay switch arrived, fitted...we have lights.
